What can be said about ‘hurry up johnny’ that hasn’t already been said a thousand times before?
Heart of a lion and Loved by all he meets, dads unwavering work ethos is legendary.
He goes to work because he loves it, and has the effect of making everyone around him love it too.
With his infamous anecdotes he’s a people person who makes everyone feel special and valued.
It’s as if Rudyard Kipling wrote his best known poem with him in mind.
How could we not succeed with dad behind the scenes?
Truly the inspiration behind what we set out to achieve.
With an upbringing in construction via my families’ building and development business, I went on to study Civil Engineering, before initially pursuing that career and attaining my professional honours.
The housebuilding bug however must have bitten me harder than I appreciated in the early formative years, as I soon found myself picking up occasional sites and developing ever larger schemes.
I found that my newly developed skills stood me in good stead to tackle the more challenging sites, which others may have overlooked as a result.
Following re-development of our current family residence and head office and the retirement of my father’s brother and lifelong business partner, Batty Developments, as it is in its present form, was conceived.
Our concept is simple.
Whether we are providing our building or Civil Engineering services to others for contract builds or the insurance sector, or whether we are developing our own sites, the premise is the same.
We provide a quality competitive product in an honest and straightforward manner.
Whilst integrity and value underpin our very being, we don’t mind admitting that it’s not unknown for us to have a bit of fun along the way!
Coming from a family of house builders, it was perhaps no surprise that upon leaving school I started work within the construction industry. Initially I learnt my trade onsite, whilst undertaking a HNC in Building studies on a day release basis.
Once qualified, developing seemed to be the next natural progression. I have always worked with John, and it the early 2000's we linked up with Shaun and Jodie, initial mainly contracting. but with the ultimate goal of starting up Batty Developments, as a house building company. Since those early day's development has remained at the core of our business, however we have recognised the need to diversify, and are now key players in the insurance repairs market.
Repairing people's homes following disaster events such as a fire or flood, gives our workforce an opportunity to shine. We encourage our staff to show empathy, to put themselves in our client's shoes, some of whom have lost everything. Our sole aim in business is to make life less difficult for our clients.
We believe good buildings are created by good people, at Batty's we invest time in our team, especially our apprentices, to ensure they have the skills and temperament required to be, "good people", who can then deliver a quality product that we can all be proud of.
I have worked alongside Shaun for the best part of 30 years so I have been with Batty Developments since its inception in 2005, following three generations of family builders.
My roles are varied, mainly behind the scenes making sure everything runs as smoothly as possible. I work with our suppliers, our ethos is to grow our business through long term working relationships, we believe the principle of people do business with people.
I also look after our most important asset, our team. Most of which have also been with us from the start, I look after them and in turn they are proud to work with us, taking in pride in their job and looking after our customers. We are very much a family and I am definitely the matriarch!
Our heritage and longevity as a local business is testament to the quality of product we produce. Building good quality affordable homes.
